Opposition is the point in Saturn’s orbit when Earth sits between the Sun and Saturn. The planet is up for most of the night, well placed for observing, and at roughly its closest annual distance from Earth.

We’ll spend time on Saturn’s rings, the brighter moons, and the subtle details that become visible when the atmosphere steadies. The rest of the session will move through whatever other bright planetary and deep-sky targets are strongest that evening.
