We are the Big Island's premier Astronomy experience. We operate the island's only fully equipped mobile observatory, with telescopes for visual observations, professional imaging, and scientific research. Scroll down to learn more.
Come Join Us!
We host numerous events each month, with varying topics of interest and focus to suit all skill levels and interests.. From stargazing tours to astrophotography workshops to local schools and outreach events, we aim to both educate the general public and support our island communities.
Welcome to the clearest skies on Earth.
The volcanoes and mountains of the Big Island are home to some of the world's most advanced telescopes and arguably the clearest skies in the world. With a combination of low latitudes, laiminar winds, and a remarkably stable atmosphere, we have an incredibly unique place to observe the night sky.
Imaging the Cosmos
Operating a number of imaging specific rigs, deep sky astrophotography and long integration times is one our passions. From Supernovas to Emission Nebulas, Distant galaxies and the Messier catalog, we target it all.
The Catalogs
Browse by catalog, constellation, season, or object type to explore the sky in different ways. Each page includes images, background information, observing details, and imaging data. The universe is enourmous - this is your map to navigating it.
Scientific Contributions
Deep Sky Hawaii is an active contributor to a number of scientific surveys, from NASA's Exoplanet Watch to PANSTAARS sweeping surveys. We don't only make pretty pictures, we attempt to contribute to the greater good of science.
