The Night

Orion climbs out of the eastern darkness, bringing winter’s bright stars and hidden clouds into view. We begin with autumn carryovers—Andromeda and the Perseus Double Cluster—then follow Taurus, the Pleiades and Auriga toward the Hunter’s Belt and Sword.

In early December, Orion becomes useful later in the evening; January brings the same region into a much stronger position. The Orion Nebula, Horsehead and Flame field, Gemini’s M35 and the Rosette let the eyepiece and cameras tell different parts of that changing winter story.

A researched winter sky tour for Hawaiʻi evenings. Select Play to begin; tap the sky to pause or resume. The waiting globe turns slowly and reduced-motion preferences keep it still. Constellation artwork gives way to named bright stars. Each object holds for five seconds on a stationary constellation map, marked only by a bullseye; its photograph, name, catalogue and short description appear below. The December 4 route starts with autumn carryovers and ends with late-evening winter fields; low Sirius-region targets are reserved for the later-season preview. This is a guided sky atlas, not a dated horizon simulation; the actual lineup depends on time, weather and horizon.

Getting thereMeet us on the mountain.

Guests drive themselves to the observing site. We choose one of four mountain meeting locations based on the evening’s weather and viewing conditions, allowing us to put the group where the sky looks best that night. Because this is an outdoor mountain experience, the exact meeting point and observing plan may shift with the weather. Your confirmation email will include the final location, arrival time, directions, and any last-minute updates.
